Cyclamen coum .
This doesn't usually flower until the New Year, and plants outside in the garden are still indulging
themselves in leafiness, but in the greenhouse the flowers are a few weeks earlier. After a dismal wintry sort of week, I am happy enough
to show a little promise of spring.
Yesterday the gloomy weather finally cleared in a burst of sunshine that has raised the spirits but dropped the temperatures. Ice formed on the greenhouse roof
overnight so the gutters dripped merrily for a few hours this morning as it melted.

Narcissus romieuxii 'Joy Bishop' .
The 'bulbocodium' Narcissus are all well advanced in their pots - the earliest N.romieuxii forms are in flower. 'Joy Bishop' is a pale
flowered form of the species with large flowers, and although the flower has flopped over a bit, the urge to photograph it with the winter light
shining through it was irresistible.

Parochaetus communis .
The sunlight has also encouraged me to take more pictures of the Parochaetus. It makes low vigorous mats of
creeping stems which are studded with small blue pea flowers through the autumn.
These few picked flowers show nothing of the plants natural habit but I have quite enjoyed seeing them in a new light.
The bright cold weather looks set to continue for a few days and it will probably bring the temperatures down enough to finish
the last flowers of autumn and clear the stage for the start of spring in a few weeks time. It will also start
the season of worrying about the temperature in the greenhouse but with any luck it won't last for long.
