The true species is white flowered, and occurs in Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil. These plants were grown from seed, and are so clearly pink that there can be no doubt
that they are wrongly named. Zephyranthes robusta springs to mind. The Pacific Bulb Society says: "Zephyranthes mesochloa Herb. is native to South America and has white or pink flowers. Height: 25 cm." Flowers of India say: "Mid-Grass Rain Lily is a dainty perennial herb with white or pink flowers. Flowers have a strong green centre with narrow, pointed tepals. As the flowers age they get a flush of pink on the outer side of the tepals. Leaves are very much grass-like. It gives the impression of dainty, small pinkish white flowers growing among grass. Mid-Grass Rain Lily is native to Brazil to South America, cultivated elsewhere." |
