A very strange dwarf form with odd leaves - this picture hardly shows it at its best. I haven't seen it in flower and I've had it for a very long time.
There is some confusion around this cultivar. The real thing has quite narrow leaves but there are plenty of people selling seed
so there are bound to be some 'wrong' plants about. I bought it originally from Cotswold Garden Flowers and their labelsaid: "Hardy. A dwarf form wiyh dramatic arching narrow arrow-shaped foliage; white flowers with green-flushed exterior. May-Jun and a few later on Oct-Nov. 50cm. Easy." Rare Palm Seeds say:" "A well known and widely popular perennial in the aroid family, originally native to South Africa, with broad, fleshy, bright green leaves and funnel-shaped inflorescences. 'White Gnome' is a dwarf cultivar that grows to only 30 cm tall. It can be cultivated in warm temperate climates as an ornamental and for cut flowers. With generous mulching it is hardy to at least USDA Zone 9." |
