I like variegated plants, and as far as I am concerned, this is as beautiful as they get. A really wonderful new cultivar. The variegation can be a bit variable,
and I have seen some less impressive plants around. (In the last couple of years, 'African Gold' has started to circulate and it is equally beautiful). Pershore College website says that it is one of the plants that was raised there. In 2000, Dan Hinkley wrote in the Heronswood catalogue: "We have been quite delighted with this variegated Calla that I brought back from England some years ago. Robust in growth, the luscious, arrow-shaped foliage is brightly, irregularly blotched and marked in golden-yellow, while offering the standard fare of white lilies in mid-summer. There is a slight tendency towards reversion of some offshoots to green, though this has not been problematic and well within reason when weighed against then effects of foliage brought to the garden by this rarely offered treasure." Adventurous Plants say: "Zantedeschia aethiopica, the Arum Lily or Calla Lily, is a commonly grown South African species, widely cultivated for its glossy foliage and pure white flowers. The cultivar ‘Pershore Fantasia’ is a truly wonderful form with pale yellow variegation to the leaves. Each leaf it unique and will be different to the next one. Zantedeschia aethiopica ‘Pershore Fantasia is fully hardy and just as easy to please as the normal forms of this species. However, it is perhaps a little less vigorous and doesn’t get to quite the same size." |
