Yucca desmetiana

I bought this earlier in the year because of the purple tinted foliage. It was labelled Y.aloifolia 'Purpurea' but it has soft drooping foliage and Y.aloifolia is an evil spiky thing. I think this is Y.x desmetiana in which case it isn't very hardy.
There are lots of different theories about the parentage, none of them entirely convincing.
Humans are profoundly irritating things. The last picture stands as a memonto of my plant, stolen overnight by someone who presumably had an overwhelming desire to own an obscure hybrid Yucca. If I find out who it was you can be sure I will be crossing them off my Christmas card list. It's a pity because it was turning into a good looking thing.

iNaturalist says:

"Yucca desmetiana is a Mexican species of plants in the asparagus family, native to northern Mexico from Chihuahua south as far as Aguascalientes and east to San Luís Potosí and Tamaulipas.
The plant is cultivated as an ornamental in many places because of its colored foliage. Leaves are bluish-gray when young, turning burgundy as they mature. It requires little maintenance, with low water requirements. It is suitable as a garden border in sandy soil and also as a potted plant for patio or walkway."

Plants of the World online says:

"The native range of this species is Mexico (Chihuahua). It is a shrub and grows primarily in the desert or dry shrubland biome."
