Obtained as Sulcorebutia albissima HS.24, this is now accepted as Weingartia mentosa . Collected by Heinz Swoboda, Aiquile to Santiago, Cochabamba, Bolivia 2450m, 5th June 2009 . Llifle says (under the name Rebutia mentosa: "Origin and Habitat: Bolivia (Cochabamba at elevations between 2100-2900 m). It grows in rocky slopes and crevices. It was originally described as solitary, but often clusters in cultivation producing a nice patch over time. Flowers: Several from the base, large intensely coloured glossy dark pink to purple-red." Plants of the World online says: "The native range of this species is Bolivia. It is a succulent subshrub and grows primarily in the desert or dry shrubland biome." Rebutia.org.uk say: "Weingartia (Sulcorebutia) mentosa was first described by Friedrich Ritter in Succulenta, 43: 7 , in 1964. |
