Veronica longifolia is a tall growing perennial speedwell. This is a white flowered form with variegated leaves. My plant doesn't grow very tall and suffers from mildew
through the summer. I got it from Cotswold Garden Flowers and their label says: "Grey-green foliage edged white, long thick white flowers in June-August, 65cm. Cut back for a later flush of flowers. Like many mnarginal chimaeras it is mildew resistant because the fungus can find no nutrients. PBR." Hardy's Plants say: "'Charlotte' is a relatively compact cultivar of Veronica longifolia. It produces a cluster of stems, its green lance-shaped leaves each have a white margin. Slender flower spikes are clad with white flower buds which burst open to reveal pure white flowers, during summer. Treat this perennial like a Penstemon by removing the first flowers to encourage flowering further down the stem. Any reasonable soil in a sunny or partially shaded location is ideal. This Veronica is fantastic at attracting butterflies making it well suited to wildlife gardens." |
