Vanda falcata 'Setsuzan'

An old cultivar with long narrow leaves and tiger variegation. The stem and root tips are brown.
The name means "snow mountain".

H. Matsuoka says:

" White tiger stripe on dark green background. Middle size, a bit himeba, strong grower. The direct translation is "snow mountain". In Edo period, it is said that people enjoyed woodcut of this variety because this was too rare to get a real plant."

Elite Orchids say:

"Setsuzan means “Snow Mountain” (It is said to look like patches of snow on a mountain) and is a very popular tiger stripe (Tora-fu) variety of fukiran. It has excellent white tiger markings (yet is highly variable) and blooms white and very fragrant in the summer. We find it fast-growing and an attractive addition to any collection."

In 2021 neofinetia.com.ua wrote:

"Fast growing form. Leaves are variegated, with light yellow and white spots, the so-called "tiger stripes". Brown trunk and roots. The junction of the leaf with the trunk has a month outline." (= crescent moon).
