Vanda falcata 'Nishidemiyako'

A vigorous white variegated plant with fleshy leaves, rounded leaf tips and large white flowers. The stem is brownish and the root tips are brown. It can produce variegated mutations and a number of them have been named.
Nishidemiyako means "West Side of Kyoto", it was discovered in the Kyoto Prefecture.

Elite Orchids say:

"Nishidemiyako is a registered fukiran variety loved for its bold variegated stripes. Neofinetia. The margins are more white than yellow, with dark green leaves for a lovely contrast.
Nishidemiyako has a further claim to fame because it is one of the varieties known for “morphing,” a process by which new growths develop into something other than the parent variety. Without exception, the morphed variety is a more precious variety.
In the case of Nishidemiyako, the “new” variety is often Manazuru which has creamy white on the margin of the leaf and green on the inside (the reverse pattern of Nishidemiyako)."

H. Matsuoka says:

" Tenzae white fukurin with cutting-in stripes, basically double fukurin but it will get to look like normal fuurin when the plant got mature. Famous as a mother of many mutated varieties. Some hobbyists who grow many 'Nishidemiyako' plants dreaming that someday they will turn to something, but actually it is rare to turn compared to the other mutation-producing varieties such as Kenkoku, Kinbotan/Kokubotan, and Ginpuu."
