A very pretty small variegated cultivar. H. Matsuoka says: "Medium-small size. A new leaf comes out with snow white nakafu and thin konpuku, then turns to a solid green leaf as the leaf ages, which is so-called "Amanogawa type" variegation. Beautiful ruby root tips though light pink at the beginning of root tip growth. Selected from wild fuurans found in Miyazaki Prefecture in 1993. This was very expensive and one of dream varieties for hobbyists but the price went down suddenly after seedlings came out to the market. Now we can affordably enjoy this beauty. Divisions from the original plant (honshou) are so massive and very popular. Orchidweb says: "A famous neofinetia for its pure white variegated top leaf and ruby root tip color. Although it is categorized as a ruby, the root tips are really a bright pink, and very attractive! This plant has a very interesting story behind it. I (Jason Fischer) was visiting my Neofinetia mentor in Japan who told me he was the first person who obtained this plant, which was wild collected by a police officer friend of his when he was on a hike in the woods sometime in the 1980's. The first division he sold was valued at about $30,000. Since then, they have been produced from seed with the same foliage and root color. However, the original mother plant holds the largest leaves, and is seldom available. Houmeiden usually express the most white in the leaves during the early spring season (between March and May). Once The summer grow season begins, there will be more green in the foliage." |
