Vanda falcata 'Amami'

The Amami Islands are an archipelago of limestone islands derived from corals that are part of the Ryuku Island chain to the southwest of Japan. The Vanda falcata that occurs there is larger growing than the form found on the main Japanese islands and there has been speculation that it is a tetraploid. The Amami Islands are signicantly warmer in winter than the main islands to the north and it is possible that plants from Amami are less tolerant of frost than the typical form.
My plant has come through it's first (mild) winter without damage in the greenhouse. Unfortunately it was badly damaged by the winter of 2023-24 and didn't recover.
