Tricyrtis 'Taipei Silk (Blue)'

Archive entry 01.10.06

I selected this from a commercial batch of 'Taipei Silk' because of its very blue flowers (they should be pink). Bought from a garden centre but grown by Blooms Wholesale. I am still waiting to see if it will repeat the effect.

Plant Delights Nursery say:

"Tricyrtis 'Taipei Silk' is a delightful 2005 tricyrtis hybrid from the breeding program of Darrell Probst. The 30" tall stalks of this Tricyrtis lasiocarpa hybrid are clothed with glossy green leaves, then topped, starting in September, with five-way branched terminal sprays of 1.5" wide flowers. Each flower is composed of three rich lavender petals contrasted with three smaller white petals with lavender specks. Tricyrtis 'Taipei Silk' is a great addition to the fall garden."

Protected by Plant Patent PP18,727. The patent says:

"The new Tricyrtis originated from a cross-pollination made by the Inventor in 1992 in Hubbardston, Mass. of an unnamed selection of Tricyrtis formosana, not patented, as the female, or seed, parent with an unnamed selection of Tricyrtis lasiocarpa, not patented, as the male, or pollen, parent. The new Tricyrtis was discovered and selected by the Inventor in 1993 as a flowering plant within the progeny of the stated cross-pollination in a controlled environment in Hubbardston, Mass."
