Stromanthe 'Green Cigar'

I have probably grown more of the Marantaceae than can be justified by their hardiness (and thus killed them). This one has performed well in Florida, and there is a slim chance that it will survive without too much heat. It has certainly been happier in the greenhouse than it was indoors, though it has come in again for the winter.
Unfortunately it didn't survive the winter even in the house. It was a wild gamble although some of the Stromanthe are quite tough.

I got it from Aloha Tropicals in California and their website says:

"Gorgeous large glossy paddle like pleated leaves on this very unusual stromanthe, it’s flowering stems are burgundy purple, leading to light green cigar shaped bracts where creamy white inflorescences peek out throughout it’s bracts. Very tropical and unusual! Hardy to mid 30’s as with all other stomanthe."
