A selected form. Some pots just have 'patience' written all over them! I bought it from Simon Bond at Thuya Alpines and in the end patience was not sufficient. It never really grew under my conditions and expired without flowering. I was able to get a picture of it flowering at Kew in the autumn. Originally collected by John Marr under his number JRM.3186/75from Dodona in Greeece. It has also been distributed as 'Dodona Gold'. Under the name 'Dodona Gold', Paul Christian says in his Rare Plants catalogue: "This is the very best, and most free-flowering, form from the very north of the plant’s range, close to and within the ancient amphitheatre at Dodona in Greece. Large golden goblets borne reliably every September and October, over prostrate silver-lined leaves. This does very well and flowers much more reliably in our climate. Originally discovered and introduced by Dr. J.R.Marr in the early 1970s years ago." Writing in his Bulb Log for the Scottish Rock Garden club, Ian Young says: "This is the John Marr form of S. sicula which is a very fine plant with flowers on top of a short stem and leaves that do not hug the ground as in some other forms of this plant.
