Selaginella martensii 'Jori'

A tender spikemoss that makes upright fans of growth like a tiny congested tree. The tips of the growth are frosted with white, and can form irregular bands lower down in the plant. Very popular for bottle gardens and terraria, it isn't so good on a windowsill and only a fool (like me) would try it in a cold greenhouse. The species originates from Mexico and Central America where it grows in tropical forests.

It survives some winters.

I first met it in the 1980's when it was being grown by the Danish houseplant industry and I got the impression that it was a new introduction but I haven't been able to confirm it, or find any early records.
