Sedum kamtschaticum 'Variegatum'

A vigorous and hardy stonecrop fron the far East. I grow it because I like variegated plants even though I have very little sunny garden space to house it. Not as invasive as some of the hardy Sedum. The nomenclature of Sedum is currently in turmoil, Kew are lsiting this species as Phedimus kamtschaticus and say in Plants of the World online:

"The native range of this species is Russian Far East to N. China and N. Japan. It is a succulent perennial and grows primarily in the temperate biome."

Tony Avent says in the Plant Delights catalogue:

"This delightful and easy-to-grow form of S. kamtschaticum is not as aggressive as some selections of this species. We even give this form a special place of honor in our rock garden. This clumping form of S. kamtschaticum emerges in early spring with dozens of grass-green rosettes held horizontally on the end of 6" long stems. As the temperatures warm, the edges of the leaf take on a nice, creamy gold border. The clumps are topped with sprays of bright yellow flowers held just above the foliage in midsummer...a real winner."

Writing in 'The Plantsman' in 1986, Karel Hensen and Nynke Groengijk-Wilders give the description:

"Leaves bright green with cream or creamish red margin, in spring sometimes entirely reddish. Height c. 15cm (6in.), in flower to 18cm (7in.). Flowering June-July, abundant. Flower buds pink, petals bright yellow, somewhat lighter than the species, carpels orange-pink, fruits pinkish red. Flower diam. 12 to 14mm (1/2in.)."
