Scilla siberica

A vigorous and common bulb from Russia and the Caucasus. I grow it from time to time in a pot because it doesn't naturalise with me. I wish it would, but that is probably better than wishing it wouldn't. It is capable of fully exploring the boundaries of "vigorous" and "common".
I have it planted in front of the house where it is shaded and not entirely at home. I plan to move it around the garden and see if I can find somewhere that suits it better.

Plants of the World Online says:

"The native range of this species is Krym to NW. Iran. It is a bulbous geophyte and grows primarily in the temperate biome."

Brian Mathew writes:

"This long-term favourite is one of the most satisfactory of the whole genus for general garden use, thriving in most situations except those that are both hot and dry in summer. Although the cultivar 'Spring Beauty' is always cited as the best, there was little to choose between the various entries in the trial, whether they were assigned to just S. siberica or this particular selection. For this reason the AGM has been awarded to the species as a whole rather than any one variant of it."
