Pterostylis coccina

11th May 2013 17th October 2018
I enjoy growing Pterostylis curta so I thought it was worth giving another species a try when it became available. This is one of the species of Pterostylis that have been shunted off into Diplodium by some authorities. I haven't really considered the arguments - I am waiting to see if I can grow it first.

It has a natural distribution in eastern Australia covering New South Wales and north-eastern Victoria where it grows in upland grasslands, away from ther drier inland regions.
In cultivation it needs to be moist in winter, when it grows and flowers, and then allowed to dry out through the summer.
