Primula 'Aire Waves'

24th March 2019 21st March 2021 18th March 2022
Another of Peter Lister's hybrids, raised from the cross between P. allionii var alba and P. auricula 'Blairside Yellow'. I bought it in 2019 from Millwood Plants and it has been vigorous and trouble free so far.

In an article on Primula allionii forms Dr A. J. Marcham says:

"Fine white hybrids have been raised by Peter Lister by crossing P. allionii var alba with the well known P. auricula cultivar 'Blairside Yellow'. In view of the different flowering times of the two parents this is an unusual alliance but one which has been repeated. 'Aire Waves' and 'Aire Mist' are sister seedlings, both white and thrum eyed, both beginning to win show awards. The two are very similar but 'Aire Waves' flowers almost a month earlier than 'Aire Mist'. What a triumph of timing!
... 'Aire Waves' has large flowers, creamy white on opening, swiftly bleaching to pure white, with no 'eye'. There are up to five flowers on each 1.5cm scape. Petals are overlapping, ruffled, with one or two marginal notches. The calyx and pedicel are slightly farinose. The leaves are obovate with rounded tips and dentate margins which are most pronounced at the tips."
