A new cultivar from Japan with startling shiny new growth. The flowers are pinkish, not really in a good way. They have none of the impact of the bright leaves.
Discovered by Yoshimichi Hirose as a branch sport on a plant of Pieris japonica growing in a cultivated area in Kazakai, Hirata, Japan in 1986. Selected for its dark red new foliage and pink flowers.
