Philadelphus delavayi f. melanocalyx 'Nymans'

8th June 2019

A tall growing shrub up to 4m high. The species occurs in W.China, S.E.Tibet and N.Myanmar discovered and introduced by Abbe Delavay in 1887. This cultivar derives from seed collected by George Forrest in W.Yunnan. This one was grown and selected at Nymans and received an Award of Merit from the RHS when shown by Nymans in 1935. Indistinguishable plants were raised at other gardens from the same Forrest seed.

I rooted a batch of cuttings that I was given, this picture demonstrates that at least one of them made it into the garden.
