Phegopteris connectilis

15th May 2021

I have known of the Northern Beech fern for decades without actually running into it. Perhaps that isn't surprising, ferns are often very specific in their habitats. The fern prefers northern forests, I quite like firesides and comfy chairs. The potential for overlap is slight. Also, I live in the extreme south west of the country, and as the name indicates, this is a northern fern.
I bought this one in 2015 at a Rare Plant fair and it lurked in a pot for a few years before it was put out into the garden. Since then it has prospered.
