I have two planted to the south of the house, which are about 30 feet tall after 23 years. (The third one died and has been replaced by a Cornus florida that never flowers).
The original hybrids were raised by Max Loebner of Pillnitz, Germany before the First World War. 'Merrill' was a repeat of the original hybrid between M. kobus and M. stellata raised at the Arnold Arboretum in 1939.
My two large trees were planted in 1985 and were grown from liners that I bought in for resale.
