Magnolia 'Susan'

A hybrid between M. liliflora and M. stellata that is easy to propagate and has become one of the staples of the nursery trade.
One of a number of seedlings raised in 1955 and 1956 by William F. Kosar and Francis de Vos at the US National Arboretum in Washington DC.
It flowers later than many hybrids and so avoids frost damage.

I planted it in 2006 at the top of the garden and it has slowly grown into a small shrub.
