The "blue" subspecies flowers in the early spring and is a little more fragile than the typical form. For example,
I have never seen the blue form run riot through a greenhouse smothering everything in its path.

This one has had a stay of execution because it is behaving itself in the greenhouse. The blue form occurs
only along the coast between KwaZulu-Natal and Mozambique and grows and flowers earlier in the season.
It has never been caught by the frost here but I occasionally worry.
