Ficaria verna 'Hoskins Variegated'

25th March 2005

A startling variegated plant. The leaves have bold splashes of gold and green, with a brown or maroon line at the base. It would be nice if it was a little more vigorous, but it seems to manage to get bigger year by year.

There have been a number of variegated forms named. Those that are stable are not always impressive, so this plant is a great addition to the range of garden worthy forms available. Quite slow to appear above ground in the winter, and I am always worrying about it before it comes up like a tiny slow motion firework.
