The Japanese Holly fern has been grown for decades as a house plant. It will tolerate drought and deep shade, though it is much more beautiful given some light and moisture.
In recent years it has proven itself for outdoor use, at least in protected locations. Strong evergreen fronds with angular leathery pinnules.
