Crocosmia pottsii

A species with a restricted natural range in eastern South Africa, growing by streamsides. The small angular seeds are probably adapted to be dispersed by water.

There is some variability in the colour in cultivation, but they all produce numerous small flowers. Grows in congested clumps with small shoots and small corms. Not a particularly spectacular species, but very important in cultivation through its hybrid with Crocosmia aurea to produce the ubiquitous Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora.
