Crocus pulchellus

12th October 2006

A beautiful autumn flowering Crocus that always seems to wait for cold wet weather to emerge, and acts as a messenger of gloominess. It doesn't really do well here, though I am still looking for the best location. It persists for a few years, but slowly fades away.

True to form, it is continuing to produce the occasional flower, but as the picture shows, it has yellow anthers instead of white, so it is actually Crocus speciosus, which is also lovely!
