Camellia 'Takanini'

Raised by Neville Haydon in New Zealand and flowering first in 1984. A strong coloured red with a dense boss of staminodes in the centre of the flower.
Under the right, cold conditions the old flowers take an an almost unique lavender shade before they fall. It's a curiosity
but when it's not being curious (which is quite a lot of the time) it is a rather good red.
