A tall growing species from Chile. I have admired it for years in gardens but it is difficult to propagate and I have only just been able to obtain one.

A Chilean species described by Philippi in 1856 and introduced to Kew in 1902. Plants in currently in cultivation come from seed collected by Clarence Elliott and Dr Gourlay in 1929 near Temuco (now the capital of the Cautin Province in southern Chile).
