Arbutus unedo

5th July 2014

The Strawberry Tree is a delightful evergreen, tolerant of wind and with interesting flowers and fruits in late autumn and winter. Native to Western Europe, including France and Ireland it should be perfect for this garden. Unfortunately I keep having little accidents with it. To be more accurate, I keep planting them, waiting until they are too large to move, and then changing my mind.
This is my latest attempt and it is still in a pot, because after a number of false starts I have become frightened of planting it out.
The windbreak around the garden is becoming quite old and unsteady now, so I have a vague hope that an Arbutus might form part of the replacement.
