Anemone nemorosa 'Leeds Var'

8th April 2007

A very large flowered white. Graham Thomas cites Bowles as saying that it is the same thing as 'Lady Doneraille', but it would seem that an error has crept in , as they are wont to do. Bowles actually says that "Two very fine forms are listed under the name of grandiflora;" the one from Lady Doneraille, from Ireland . "I do not like it so much as the other form, which I have always called 'Leeds Variety'..". He was able to trace it back to Mr.Leeds, but unable to determine its original source. He speculated that it came from in Norway, though his reasoning might not stand up too well to modern scrutiny.
