I bought a packet of seed because I didn't know anything about it, and this was the best way to find out. I later found out it is from China and Japan. In the first year each seedling produced a single leaf.

I was worried that there would be problems overwintering them, but they have come back stronger. It has quite thick leathery leaves.

While wandering around aimlessly I bumped into these adults flowering in the Alpine House at Kew. Wonderful flowers and great leaves. I was delighted to see how well it was doing in an unheated greenhouse.

One size stronger this year, which is very pleasing.
