Agave utahensis ssp. kaibabensis

24th October 2015

Agave utahensis is a charming little plant that makes small grey-green rosettes and in this subspecies they will eventually grow on a short trunk. When I first obtained one it was because it grows well up into the USA, including Utah and Nevada. A. u. kaibabensis can be found on the north side of the Grand Canyon, perched atop its tiny trunk and peering down into the void. I was underwhelmed by its simple appearance but over the years I have been charmed by its stout rosettes and long wiggly spines - often much longer and wigglyer than in this specimen.
love it deasrly. They don't like wet but if they are dry they laugh in the face of cold.
