Aechmea recurvata 'Panama'

I bought this with a certain cynicism about the name. The species comes from Argentina, Paraguay, Urasguasy and southern Brazil and is a cold tolerant southerner.
It doesn't reach into the more northerly tropical parts of South America, and Panama is way outside the natural range. My assumption is that this is an unfortunate mistaken
name for the clone currently going around as 'Paraguay'. If I grew them side by side I might be able to make a proper comparison, but I don't.
