JEARRARD'S HERBAL
23rd August 2026
Haemanthus coccineus .
Another hot week but we have had some rain and with it the autumn bulbs have continued to appear.
Haemanthus coccineus has made the greenhouse almost gaudy midst the sere remains of summer.

Amaryllis belladonna .
Amarllis have prospered this year and it is worth showing this dark flowered 'Australian Hybrid' from Sarah and Julian Sutton.
As the name suggests, it is probably a x Amarygia but it is welcome.
Everyone I know agrees that a long hot summer has helped the Amaryllis. Opinions about why are less unanimous.
23rd August 2026
Colchicum x agrippinum .
The second of the colchicum has appeared to mark the start of the season. Next week there will be dozens, and it will be astonishing in a familiar way.
This week there is one and the astonishment is unique.
23rd August 2026
Rhodophiala bifida pink form .
I have grown the pink form for a few years and it flowers reluctantly compared with the other forms of R. bifida.
This flower was unexpected - the pot was bare last time I looked - but welcome. The picture shows why the genus has recently been moved into Zephyranthes.
