The Ranunculaceae is an enormous botanical family containing the oddest of bedfellows. They tend to be poisonous, and they tend to have complex seed dormancy problems. In general seed is best sown fresh as soon as ripe. If allowed to dry out, it can often sit around in the pots for years before it decides to germinate. Many of the horticultural genera are a nuisance to divide, so seed is often the best solution. I do not grow a very wide range of species, but I probably grow those to excess. Every now and then I will try something new, and from time to time I find I stick with it, but usually the general cultural obstinacy of the plants annoys me.
Those gerera that I grow, I grow obsessively, and it probably isn't entirely healthy.
So far I have only got around to organising Ranunculus, and it is really only the Lesser Celandine , Ranunculus ficaria that I have much to show.
