A couple of genera that make good garden plants, and have strong horticultural followings. I grow those that I like, without much systematic intent. Among Hemerocallis I started with some of the older and more traditional cultivars but have recently started to grow some of the more modern colours and shapes. With Hosta I prefer to grow the variegated cultivars. Hostas are so easily grown from seed that green, blue or yellow leaved forms have already been named in excess. Occasionally a truly unique growth habit or leaf shape will justify naming. Good variegated cultivars are quite rare, though the market is flooded with the novel but mediocre cultivars.
