Begonia grandis ssp evansiana
This is the best known of the hardy Begonias. I always find it obstinate in the garden. Too hot and it dries up, too cold and it doesn't develop fully. Too wet and it rots, too dry and gets stunted.
On the plus side, where it is well suited it is fantastic. At the end of summer it produces bulbils in the leaf axils that allow mass propagation for the following year.
The pink flowers are an exotic and unexpected addition to the autumn scene.
