Begonia boliviensis 'Bonfire'
In 1990 the New Zealand Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries collected seed of Begonia boliviensis during an expedition to Bolivia. The seed was grown and selected carefully, and eventually this floriferous compact form of the species was intoroduced to commerce. It was first made available in Europe in spring 2005.
The compact habit makes it well suited to pot culture, and it will flower continuously from June until
November. It has lost some of the elegance of the typical species, but is unmatched for sheer flower power.
