Alocasia macrorhizum
Fifteen years ago I bought a large plant of Alocasia macrorhizum at an auction,and it grew for a few years beside the heated bench in my propagation house. I got so used to its presence that I neglected to protect it in a particularly hard winter, and that was that.
This year I have replaced it with a young plant that is already growing vigorously in the conservatory, which I try to keep frost free.

I didn't keep it warm enough, and here are the consequences! Must try harder.

I have been struggling to get it to produce the thick stems it is capable of. I should have fed this one much
more heavily than I did during the summer - it was another victim of the Hedychium fiasco - trapped in a greenhouse that was too small and too crowded for things to receive proper care.
By next year things should have been sorted out.
